CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, helped initiate a program to get our nation’s children moving, educate them about better nutrition, and limit screen time to help prevent obesity in young children.

Apple School is consciously trying to increase physical exercise and active fun creative movement into our daily curriculum. The children use balls of all types, a parachute, hoops, bean bags, balance beams, scarves, ribbon wands, and obstacle courses.  The children are engaged in developing skills such as throwing, catching, balancing, jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping and riding tricycles. The teachers use games that incorporate strength, coordination and confidence.  In the many activities provided, the children are climbing, stretching, bending, swaying, rolling, marching, dancing, often to music using scarves, ribbons, etc.  Self esteem is enhanced as the children master a variety of skills aimed at their developmental level and they become more body aware.  We are supporting motor development and movement awareness in young children.  Fundamental movement actions are the foundation upon which game and sport skills are based.  It is widely recognized that self concept development during early childhood is largely based on what a child feels he can or cannot do with his body.

Above all, we want the children to be encouraged to be physically active, whether at school or at home.  We are making this active time FUN and our goal is to assist in developing an enthusiastic desire for an active lifestyle.
